1. CFR Mombasa scope
Quotations are issued as CFR Mombasa unless stated otherwise in writing. CFR Mombasa typically covers:
- The vehicle cost (auction or contract price).
- Japan export handling and documentation as included by the Japanese exporting partner.
- Ocean freight to Mombasa.
The exact CFR Mombasa scope is governed by the Japanese exporting partner’s written quotation or contract for the specific vehicle.
2. Kenya-side charges are separate
The following Kenya-side charges are separate from any CFR Mombasa quotation unless expressly included in writing:
- Kenya import duty.
- VAT, IDF, RDL and other applicable Kenya taxes or levies.
- Port and clearance fees at Mombasa.
- KEBS conformity and inspection where applicable.
- Kenya vehicle registration costs.
- Inland delivery from Mombasa to your city.
These charges depend on the specific vehicle (year, engine size, fuel type, value declared at customs), current Kenya tax rates and the clearing agent you choose. They can change over time and Markato Autos Japan does not control them.
3. Get guidance before purchase
The Kenya sales team can give you indicative guidance on what to expect for Kenya-side costs before you commit to a vehicle. Always request this guidance before transferring money so you can plan your full budget realistically.
4. No guaranteed Kenya-side amount
Markato Autos Japan does not calculate or guarantee Kenyan taxes, IDF or clearance fees. Indicative figures given for guidance purposes are estimates only and are not part of any quotation or contract.
5. Cancellation due to misjudged Kenya costs
Once a vehicle is purchased by the Japanese exporting partner based on your written approval, the purchase cannot be cancelled because of separate Kenya-side cost surprises. Please plan and verify Kenya-side costs in advance. See the Deposit & Refund Policy.
