Deposit & Refund

Deposit & Refund Policy

How reservation and deposit payments are handled, and when they become part of the vehicle payment.

Last updated. 31 May 2026.

This policy describes how reservation or deposit payments are handled in the Japan-to-Kenya vehicle import process supported by Markato Autos Japan. Please read carefully before transferring any money.

1. Where payment goes

A reservation or deposit payment is made only by international bank transfer to the official Japanese exporter bank account shown on the exporter-issued invoice or contract.

Markato Autos Japan does not accept vehicle purchase deposits on behalf of the exporter and does not request payment to any personal account, Kenyan bank account or mobile money number. Never transfer money to a personal account, mobile money number or unofficial bank account. Always confirm that the bank details match the official exporter-issued invoice or contract before payment.

2. Before written approval and purchase

Before the customer gives written approval for a specific vehicle, and before that vehicle is purchased by the exporter, any deposit treatment is subject to the written quotation, invoice or contract issued by the Japanese exporting partner. Refund options at this stage depend on what the exporter has stated in writing on those documents. Markato Autos Japan does not make refundable promises beyond what the exporter’s written terms provide.

3. After written approval and purchase

Once you provide written approval for the selected vehicle and the Japanese exporting partner purchases that vehicle, the deposit becomes part of the vehicle payment and is non-refundable, in line with the exporter’s written contract.

4. Used vehicles. Reasonable condition.

All vehicles offered are used vehicles. After purchase, the customer cannot cancel or request a refund because of normal used-car condition, wear, cosmetic issues, or required maintenance or replacement parts, subject to the exporter’s written contract.

The Japanese exporting partner aims to supply the vehicle in the best reasonably available condition according to the selected specification and the QISJ inspection process, but used vehicles are not new vehicles and must not be represented as fault-free.

5. Maintenance and parts after purchase

If maintenance, repairs or replacement parts are required after purchase, those costs are the customer’s responsibility unless the exporter agrees otherwise in writing.

6. Bank charges and currency

All international bank transfer charges, intermediary bank charges, exchange-rate differences and refund-related bank charges, where applicable under the exporter’s contract, are the customer’s responsibility.

7. Read the exporter documents

The customer must read and accept the Japanese exporter’s invoice or contract before transferring money. The exporter’s written documents govern the deposit treatment and any refund eligibility. If anything in those documents is unclear, ask the Kenya team for clarification before paying.

8. Verification

You can verify the Japanese exporting partner through the official JUMVEA member directory before any payment.

Important. Read before transferring money. Never transfer money to a personal account, mobile money number or unofficial bank account. Always confirm that the bank details match the official exporter-issued invoice or contract. If you are uncertain, contact the Kenya team on WhatsApp before paying.
